Lewanna Atkinson was born 21 December 1820 in Salisbury, Wilts; and at the time of the census in 1841 and 1851, was living with her parents, Thomas (who served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy) and Lewanna (née Smith) Atkinson, in Weymouth, where James George Deck had lived before he emigrated to New Zealand. J.G. Deck's first wife died in 1853 and by 1855 Lewanna Atkinson was in New Zealand and married JGD on 17 July in Motueka, Nelson. She died on 7 May 1865. Timothy Stunt
