Alma is an old tune by Samuel Webbe, adapted from the tune he wrote to "Alma redemptoris mater" in his Collection of Motetts and Antiphons (1792). The early tune is called 'Consolation' or 'Consolator' as it is used with the hymn 'Come, ye disconsolate'
Hymn 179 was sung to 'Alma' at JND's burial, according to the accounts of it.
