One day before he died, his 53-year-old daughter Louise Eugénie had married the 62-year-old painter Léon Berthoud (1822–1892). The death notice in the newspaper Feuille d'Avis de Neuchâtel was placed by Eugénie and her husband; her three siblings (including Henri) are not even mentioned, which is quite unusual:

Eugénie's own death notice – she died only 16 days after her father! – follows the custom of the day: Here all siblings are listed as well as several other relatives.
